The Ministry of Health and Welfare's "Medical Support Project for Foreign Workers”

In accordance with the Ministry of Health and Welfare's 'Guidelines for the Medical Support Program for Foreign Workers and Others,' medical services are provided to individuals who are not eligible for benefits under public health insurance or other medical coverage systems.
To receive support through this program, you must meet the eligibility criteria and be selected for support in the hospital through the post-hospital consultation process. Eligibility may vary by hospital, so please call to confirm before visiting.

Eligibility

Foreign patients who are not eligible for medical benefits such as health insurance, medical benefits, or workers' compensation insurance and who have been in Korea for 90 days or more and meet the following conditions.
1. Foreign workers and their children and/or spouses (if pregnant)
Have worked or are currently working at a business located in Korea (Required documents: passport, alien registration card, lease agreement, personal guarantee (prepare at least one))
Children, under 18 years of age of the above foreign worker (Required documents: [Additional confirmation] Parental affidavit (confirming family relationship)
Applicable visas: D-3, D-4, E-6, E-9, E-10/B-1, B-2, C-2, C-3, H-2 (employment verification)
2. Female married immigrants and their children before citizenship
Foreign women who are married to a Korean spouse (excluding common-law marriage) and who have not yet acquired Korean citizenship and are in a state of runaway or evasion (Required documents: passport, family register, confirmation of runaway or evasion status)
Children under 18 years of age of the above female married migrants (Required documents: [additional check] Parental statement (confirming family relationship)
3. Refugees and their children
Persons who have been recognized as refugees or who have applied for refugee recognition (including those in litigation), or who have been granted a residence permit for humanitarian reasons (Required document: Alien Registration)
Children under the age of 18 of the above refugees (Required documents: [additional checks] Parental affidavit (confirming family relationship)

️️ Contents of Support

Medical expenses (excluding non-payment and elective medical expenses) for the following items up to a maximum of KRW 5 million
① Hospitalization and surgery (including same-day outpatient surgery)
② Prenatal check-ups (* Medicare-covered tests in accordance with the Department of Health and Human Services notice)
③ Outpatient medical services for children of immigrants who have not yet acquired nationality, and for children under 18 of refugee applicants.
④ Prenatal checkups and childbirth-related to pregnancies of foreign workers' spouses (foreigners)

How to apply

Support Flow Chart
① Visit a medical institution that provides " Medical Care Service Support Project for Marginalized People including Migrant Workers”
② Consultation with the person in charge (confirmation of eligibility and selection of eligible persons)
③ Hospitalization and other medical treatment (including outpatient treatment for children of eligible persons)
④ Completion of medical service support (discharge)
⑤ Local government reimbursement of medical bills from providers

 Eligibility

Foreign workers and their children, and pregnant spouses (foreigners), refugee applicants and their children who are not covered by any public medical benefit programs. *For more information, please contact the medical institution implementing the project.

Support count: Unlimited number of times per year
*Support is limited to one hospitalization and one surgery per the same diagnosis
*If additional treatment is needed, the medical institution must review the case (with at least two doctors) and submit a justification for the excess treatment
Coverage: Medical expenses such as hospitalization and surgery
*Outpatient treatment costs related to hospitalization and surgery are covered up to a total of three times: once before and twice after hospitalization (within six months after discharge)
*The annual support limit is set at 6 million KRW. If this amount is exceeded, prior or post-approval from the relevant metropolitan or provincial government is required
Support limit: Support provided up to 3 million KRW per case
*If the total treatment cost per case exceeds 3 million KRW, the medical institution must conduct an internal review (by at least two doctors) and submit a justification for the excess treatment costs.
